Large Mughal portal carved in red sandstone, made up of several pieces recomposed into a single structure, probably from the beginning part of the same architectural decoration.
The portal is made up of a pediment, four small columns forming a three-light window in the centre of the composition and a parapet at the base. The pediment is made up of a frieze with three framed square panels, the two external ones with geometric interweavings inside a mihrab , the central one with a medallion with floral and phytomorphic motifs. Below there is an architrave which in turn consists of three smaller rectangular panels filled with geometric and floral patterns and interweavings.
The four slender columns are in typical Indian Mughal style with lotus flowers displayed in both the capitals and plinths and stepped shafts. Between them are arranged at the base three transennae each consisting of a square panel, each with a different geometric motif alternating with floral compositions.
India, second half of the 18th / early 19th century
